Why we built the site
Libyans follow the dollar rate every day because it affects the cost of goods, travel, study and gold. Rates often spread in scattered messages with no clear time or history, making it hard to know the current rate or its direction. We built Prices.ly to bring these rates together on one fast page, with the time of every update, a daily history and tools for calculating and comparing.
Data sources and how it works
We collect rates from daily trading channels where money changers and dealers in Tripoli and Benghazi publish market prices. Our system extracts the figures from each update automatically and stores them with their time; we then show the latest rate and calculate the day's high, low and change from the previous day.
We do not set rates or buy or sell currency; we report what is traded on the market. The rate you actually get may therefore differ slightly depending on the money changer, the amount and the payment method.
What the site offers
- The cash dollar rate in Tripoli and Benghazi and Wahda cheque rates.
- The euro in Tripoli and Turkey, and the Libyan dinar in Egyptian pounds and Tunisian dinars.
- The price per gram of 18k, 21k and worked gold.

- Instant browser alerts when rates change noticeably.
- An interface in five languages: Arabic, English, French, Hindi and Urdu.
Independence and funding
Prices.ly is not affiliated with any bank, money changer or government body. The site is completely free; we cover server and development costs through the ads shown on the pages, and ads never affect the rates displayed.
